Top 10 Beauty and Skincare Products for Winter skin

Bridal beauty winter skincare

Every winter my skin struggles with the different changes in temperature, central heating and the cold winds wreak havoc on my skin’s moisture balance. I try to keep it as hydrated as possible and because having great skin is one of my top priorities i try lots of different things to get the best skincare products in my opinion that do work!

If your getting married in summer this year you should start pampering your skin now. Bridal make up lasts longer on hydrated and nourished skins. When your skin is too dry and flaky make up will just soak straight into it.

Brides to Be should treat their skin to a monthly masque and a daily hydrating skin treatment during the winter months.

Keratosis Pilaris a Skin Condition

Keratosis Pilaris

I m sure lots of you will never have heard of this skin condition but you ve probably noticed it on someone. I want to share with you some tips to help with this condition that can affect men and women.

Keratosis Pilaris is a condition caused by an increase of skin scaling in the follicle. Caused by keratin, a natural protein in the skin, that accumulates within the hair follicles forming hard plugs (process known as hyperkeratinization). It most often appears as a proliferation of tiny hard red or skin colored bumps on the tops of arms and thighs. Exfoliation is key along with reducing salt intake in the diet. New studies point to a genetic component for Keratosis Pilaris.

Treatments that help KP:

Body Exfoliation: Removing the keratinized plug through exfoliation will leave the skin smoother thus stopping the person from picking at their skin. Dry body brushing, mineral salt scrubs and exfoliating body scrubs are ideal, either done at home or in the skin or spa center.

Some exfoliating and useful ingredients to look for in your skin products are:

Lactic Acid: Exfoliating, humectant increases natural ceramides

Salicylic Acid: is always a good choice of ingredient when looking to treat any form of follicular concern. Salicylic acid is lipophilic which enables in to penetrate sebaceous substance in the hair follicle & exfoliate the pores. It is also an anti-inflammatory

Fruit Enzymes: dissolve dead surface skin cells

Abrasives : Corn cob, loofah, buffing cloth and salt scrub etc. will slough off surface skin cells

Hyaluronic Acid: Humectant, binds 1000 x own weight in water

Vitamin A: Aids in exfoliation, regulates epidermal function

Evening Primrose Oil: Rich source of gamma linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps restore barrier properties to skin

I have been using Dermalogica both professionally and personally for the last 14 years. Here’s how to use their products to help this skin condition.

Guest Blog – Jenni Middleton

The Guest Blog today is all about Jenni Middleton

Tell me a bit about yourself?

I am the editor-in-chief of Professional Beauty and Retail Jeweller magazines, two magazines for businesses in these sectors, so targeting salons and spas, and retail jewellery stores. www.retail-jeweller.com and www.professionalbeauty.co.uk. Follow us on twitter at http://twitter.com/retailjeweller and http://twitter.com/pro_beauty

What in your make up bag?

Being a beauty editor, I am a total magpie when it comes to make-up. I love Daniel Sandler, and have been lucky enough to have him do my make-up for special occasions (including for the UK Jewellery Awards, last week, which is the picture of me above). I love Daniel make-up range, especially the Smart Base and Concealer and his primers. I also love Inika primer and Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil, New ID smokey eye pencil and Jemma Kidd Bio Veil. Dior Skinflash is a favourite concealer and I also really love Dior mascara.

What your skincare routine?

In my job, I have to try out lots of different products (it a dirty job, but hey, someone has to do it!). I love Darphin products and am currently enjoying the new Predermine anti-wrinkle serum and fluid. I love the aromatic cleansing balm of this beauty house too. I always cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and every evening. I usually use Dermalogica or Darphin cleansers, and an Elemis or Darphin moisturiser. I like a rich cream as my skin is very dry, and so Elemis Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream is a godsend. I also love those masks that you can sleep in, Carita and Collin both do great versions. You wake up and it like you have been having a facial all night.
I love Darphin shower cream with red berries, a great exfoliator to use in the shower. And I am also a fan of Elemis Milk Bath and Frangipani Monoi Melt. For me, when it comes to bodycare, it all about the smells and feeling silky smooth after application.

What one beauty product couldn t you live without?

My favourite moisturiser is Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, and I probably could not live without that. But also don t let me go without my Darphin serum or Dermalogica AgeSmart Thermalfoliant.

Who do you most admire for their style and beauty and why?

I love the whole vintage and 50s look, which really suits my figure, so I think Dita Von Teese is my style icon. Along with Audrey Hepburn of course!

This Heatwave

Its so hot here in the South of England, something we’re not used to. One product that I can recommend having in your handbag is Dermalogica’s Solar Defense Wipes SPF15 for a quick top up of sun protection. These wipes are great for the kids too. I used one wipe to cover my face arms and legs and it was enough. The RRP for a pack of 15 towelettes is £22.00.
