Painting Mannequins

A few weeks ago I attended a Painting mannequins course at Illamasqua School of make Up. The company showing us how they paint mannequins was Rootstein

I had no idea that most of the mannequins we see are hand painted and some of them are modelled for by celebrities. A;; of the mannequins are modelled by a real person though.

With 50 years experience Rootstein produces the highest quality mannequins handcrafted from fibreglass and sculpted for a perfect, life-like finish. Rootstein is a vital part of the retail display industry and employs the highest calibre creative teams, including artistic directors, hair & make-up artists and wig makers, in order to facilitate our clients vision with impeccable flair.

The skill of the artist was amazing. The mannequin was without a face and within 30 minutes it was painted and looking amazing! Every part of the face was painted by hand including the base colour, eyes and eyebrows. There were no stencils used and she had us all in awe of her work.

I will let the pictures tell the story!

It was one of the most fascinating courses I’ve ever attended. For more information on the history of Rootstein started in the late 1950’s early 1960’s by Adel Rootstein visit
